Description
The 2000 Château Roland La Garde Grand Vin from Premières Côtes de Blaye is a fully mature Bordeaux that reflects both the generosity of the millennium vintage and the softer, Merlot-driven style of the Right Bank’s satellite appellations. In the glass, it shows a tawny garnet hue with clear signs of age. The nose is resolved and savory, offering dried plum, fig, and black cherry alongside leather, tobacco, cedar, and a gentle earthy note.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with completely softened tannins and modest but still present acidity. Primary fruit has largely faded, giving way to tertiary complexity and a smooth, easy-drinking profile. The finish is dry and mellow rather than long or powerful. This is a well-aged, honest Bordeaux best enjoyed now, ideally with simple comfort food, where its subtle, old-world character can be appreciated without expectation of intensity.
