Precise and flinty aromatics of flowers and ripe citrus yield to a textural and rich palate that is balanced on a razors edge. Beautiful Auslese from a benchmark producer, in an exceptional year.
Joh. Jos. Prumhas been abenchmarkfor classically styledMosel Rieslingsfor more than half a century. Formed in 1911 by Johann Josef Prum, the estate quickly established its reputation, particularly by son Sebastien, and most recently by Dr. Manfred Prum and his daughterDr. Katharina Prum. Their rieslings are exceptionally long lived and beautifully consistent. Their expression of site is transparent, and wildly aromatic fromspontaneous fermentation and minimal cellar intervention. These are a benchmark for a reason.
The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslesecomes from the exceptional Sonnenuhr vineyard at the southern end of the village of Zeltingen abutting the neighboring vineyards of Wehlen. This steep vineyard is grown in weathered blue slate soils facing southwest, providing ample warmth and sunshine for optimal ripeness. This Auslese is precise and mineral with crushed slate balancing the savory herb and ripe citrus and stone fruit. The palate is rich and deep with ripe fruit and grip from the pronounced minerality and fresh acidity.
Winemaker Notes
The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyard in the most northernly site and directly borders the northern edge of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The wines can be very complex, with earthy, rocky and smoky notes. They can have a certain dense quality and their acidity often is lower.
