Description

The terroir of Château Rauzan-Gassies lies exclusively on the glacial gravel of Margaux and Cantenac, overlooking the Gironde river. The excellent drainage of this soil makes it ideal for an elite vineyard. The gravel along the river is a sanctuary for Margaux vineyards, that were already reputed in the Middle Ages. All the Château Rauzan-Gassies terroirs are part of the "Historical Margaux", and were planted with vines long before 1855.

This wine is dark purple-red, with earthy and purposeful aromas. The fruit is rich, dense and closely constituted, just beginning to leave the flush of youth behind it but with plenty of cladding to take it through another half-dozen years of ageing if you wish. The innate depth and tenacity of the fruit suggest serious vineyard origins. (Best in Show)
