Chassagne Montrachet is known for white wine, but a small portion is planted to Pinot Noir. Clos Saint Jean is a Premier Cru site that can produce structured, mineral driven red Burgundy.
The 2009 vintage was warm and generous, giving riper fruit and softer acidity than cooler years. At this age the wine should show dried cherry, raspberry compote, forest floor, spice and earthy undertones. Texture tends to be silky with resolved tannin and a savory finish.
This is fully mature and should be opened now. Serve with roast duck, mushroom dishes or simple roasted poultry.
