Description

Château Mouton Rothschild 2000 is a legendary vintage and highly collectible wine. For this landmark year, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild adorned the bottle with a gold-enameled etching of the Augsburg Ram, a 16th-century silver-gilt emblem of the estate. This striking design, combined with the wine’s power, richness, and longevity, cements its status as a First Growth icon.

Deep garnet with a touch of brick, it opens with aromas of Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch, and blackcurrant pastilles, layered with incense, potpourri, cinnamon, and cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate shows muscular black fruit framed by firm, ripe tannins and balanced freshness, finishing long, elegant, and multifaceted—a timeless Pauillac expression.

Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot

Wine Advocate 97

“Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2000 Mouton Rothschild boldly bursts from the glass with tantalizing Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch and blackcurrant pastilles… framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with phenomenal length. This is an incredibly complex and multifaceted wine… I can’t wait to see how this beauty will continue to unfold over the years to come.”

Wine Spectator 93

“Rounded, fleshy and a bit extracted in feel, with dark plum, blackberry and fig-jam flavors that flirt with a pruny edge, picking up lots of warm mocha, singed vanilla-bean and ganache notes through the finish. This relies more on easy opulence than on depth or purity on the end. Best after 2009.”

James Suckling 93

“The nose is very intense, super-ripe and rich, verging on jammy. Notes of leather, spices and prunes. Full-bodied, soft and beautiful with ripe tannins and a long finish. This is soft and yummy right now. Drink or hold.”
